The Kudriavka Estate – Now on Facebook!

We invite you to follow the new Facebook page of the branch of the Museum of Kyiv History — The Kudriavka Estate.

The Kudriavka Estate is a museum that recreates the atmosphere of life in a typical Kyiv city estate and showcases the uniqueness and national character of Kyiv in the 19th – early 20th centuries.

Currently, the museum hosts exhibitions, creative and artistic events, so we recommend following the page to stay updated on interesting announcements or even participate in collaborative events!

The museum is located in a charming and historically rich area. Kudriavets, or Kudriavska Hill, is an old historical part of Kyiv, located along Sichovykh Striltsiv Street. The name comes from the trees and shrubs that grew in picturesque “curly” patterns in this former Kyiv suburb.

Kudriavets was once on the Kyiv outskirts, and its intensive development started after the devastating flood of 1845, when many residents of Podil became homeless. Around the 1840s, the modern street system was also established.

The first owner of an undeveloped plot of 257 square meters was titular counselor V. Bobrov, who sold it to Andriy Demutsky, a teacher at the Third Gymnasium and brother of the famous folklorist, conductor, and composer Porfiry Demutsky, in 1882.

In 1883–1884, on Demutsky’s order and according to the project of the renowned Ukrainian architect Mykhailo Ikonnikov, then Kyiv provincial architect, a two-story house was built along the street’s red line; the first floor was made of bricks, and the second – wooden.

Among the estate’s owners and residents were members of the faculty of the Kyiv Theological Academy and their families, as well as notable figures such as: M.M. Hrinchenko, M. Dolenko, M.M. Drozdov, Ye. Drozdova, M. Zahirnia, A.F. Krauss, D. Lyashenko, M. Lyashenko, O. Lyashenko, D.P. Myuziukevich, P. Maziukevich, A.Kh. Sereda, M. Chaichenko.

We invite you to visit the picturesque Kudriavka Estate and immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the 19th – early 20th centuries!
