At the Museum and Exhibition Center, Mayor Vitali Klitschko presented the annual “Kyiv” 2023 Art Award to:
— Writer Ihor Zinoviyovych Pavlyuk for the book Vacuum (2022);
— Director Olena Volodymyrivna Dzhyshiashvili for the documentary film Play (2021);
— Composer Serhiy Ivanovych Zazhytko for musical works Potpourri on Themes from the Music of Nino Rota (2020), Testament (2021), Vocal Diptych (2022), Soldier My (2022);
— Actor Yevhen Mykolayovych Nyshchuk for the roles of Mykhailo Hurman in the play Stolen Happiness by I. Franko (2020), Christian de Neuvillet in the play Cyrano de Bergerac based on the work of E. Rostand (2020), Alfredo Traps in the play Accident (Road Stop) based on the play by F. Dürrenmatt (2021);
— Artist Yuriy Yevhenovych Vakulenko for the triptych Archangels. The Word (2020–2021);
— Master Marina Changarivna Kryvonos for the series of works Decorative Sculpture of Kyiv Region (2020–2022);
— Journalist Andriy Yuriyovych Tsapliyenko for covering the tragic events of Russian aggression against Ukraine;
— Choreographer Andriy Serhiyovych Demeshchuk for the dance production Ukrainian Polka (2022);
— Circus performer Oleg Yakovych Rybchenko for the circus act Ukrainian Night (2021).
The presentation of the “Kyiv” Art Award was established in 2001 and takes place annually as part of the Kyiv Day celebrations, except for 2022.
Initially, the award included six categories:
- Literature – “Kyiv” Art Award named after Yevhen Pluzhnyk;
- Cinema – “Kyiv” Art Award named after Ivan Mykolaichuk;
- Musical Composition – “Kyiv” Art Award named after Artemy Vedel;
- Theatre – “Kyiv” Art Award named after Ambrosiy Buchma;
- Visual Arts – “Kyiv” Art Award named after Serhiy Shyshko;
- Journalism – “Kyiv” Art Award named after Anatoliy Moskalenko.
In 2007, a 7th category in folk decorative arts was established – “Kyiv” Art Award named after Serhiy Kolos. In 2017, an 8th category in choreographic arts was established – “Kyiv” Art Award named after Pavlo Virsky. In 2018, a 9th category in circus arts was established – “Kyiv” Art Award named after brothers Vasyl and Oleksandr Yalovyi.
