“Flags of His Smiles, Tears and Victories”

On the Day of Remembrance of the Defenders of Ukraine, the Museum of the Occupation of Kyiv (a branch of the Museum of Kyiv History) and the Charitable Organization “Denys Antipov Foundation” present the exhibition “Flags of His Smiles, Tears and Victories.”

The Museum of the Occupation of Kyiv and the Charitable Organization “Denys Antipov Foundation” present the exhibition “Flags of His Smiles, Tears and Victories,” dedicated to Denys Antipov — a civic activist, Korean language teacher, and lieutenant of the 95th Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

77 photographs from Denys’s life will tell visitors about his school years, studies, love for South Korea, active civic stance and participation in protest actions, his own veteran business, and, of course, his service as a volunteer in the 81st Separate Airmobile Brigade and the 95th Separate Air Assault Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Important moments from the life of the Ukrainian warrior will also be illustrated by Denys Antipov’s personal belongings, provided by his parents specifically for this exhibition: the first drone that Denys learned to fly, a “slovomet” from the Language Maidan, a helmet from the Euromaidan, a fragment of the “Yolka,” a piece of the dismantled Lenin monument, his personal glasses from the front, and much more.

It is symbolic that the exhibition dedicated to Denys Antipov is being presented at the Museum of the Occupation of Kyiv, located on the street named after him. By decision of the Kyiv City Council, Slovhorodska Street in the Darnytskyi district of Kyiv was renamed Denys Antipov Street in 2022.

About Denys Antipov:
Denys Antipov was born on June 30, 1989, in Ivano-Frankivsk. He graduated from Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv with a degree in Korean language and literature and translation. He repeatedly undertook internships in South Korea. He worked as a lecturer at the Department of Languages and Literatures of the Far East and Southeast Asia of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Philology of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. Denys had an active civic stance, and was therefore an active participant in the Revolution of Dignity in 2013–2014 and the Language Maidan in 2019. With the beginning of the Russian-Ukrainian war in 2014, Denys first volunteered for the aerial reconnaissance units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. At the beginning of March 2022, he was wounded in battle near the city of Izium, but returned to the front despite not yet having recovered from his injuries. He was killed on May 11, 2022, near the village of Dovhenke in the Kharkiv region as a result of artillery shelling. For personal courage and selfless actions demonstrated in the defense of the state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, and for loyalty to the military oath, he was posthumously awarded the Order of Bohdan Khmelnytskyi, III degree.
