Interweaving

The Museum and Exhibition Center of the Kyiv City History Museum presents the solo exhibition of textile painting “Interweaving” by artist Olesya Tkachenko.

The exhibition “Interweaving” showcases the work of Kyiv-based artist Olesya Tkachenko, who explores the possibilities of natural textile materials within the context of contemporary art. The artist employs the “wet felting” technique, one of the oldest methods in textile production. She creates her unique paintings on woolen canvases using natural fibers, including wool, silk, viscose, linen, and others.

“Interweaving” reflects the interconnectedness of everything in human life and in the life of the artist herself. In Olesya’s abstract compositions, sensations, events, and human destinies intertwine with dreams, fantasies, and reality. Across all her works, one can trace the interaction of color, texture, and space over time.

Olesya Tkachenko’s works also convey warmth and coziness, tactility and pleasant touch, evoking feelings of calm and the comfort of home.

“In the world of my paintings, every line tells a story, and every shade conveys an emotion, all intertwining to give life a diversity of sensations! The use of color and texture in my works reflects my soul and personal life experiences. My paintings are like windows through which one can glimpse my inner world. This is my way of expressing my most intimate thoughts and feelings. The works on display are like casts of the happy states and emotions I have experienced at different times,” says the artist.

The exhibition “Interweaving” will feature around 14 works, nearly all of which will be shown for the first time. Olesya Tkachenko prefers working on large formats, as this allows her to convey her energy and emotions onto the canvas to the fullest, inspiring viewers to engage in self-reflection, explore their own identity, and connect with the surrounding world.
