Museum of Kyiv History, in cooperation with the Ivan Marchuk Museum and Cultural Center of Contemporary Art, presents an exhibition by the brilliant Ukrainian artist Ivan Marchuk, whose work has long become a cultural symbol of Ukraine on the international stage.
An innovator artist, a philosopher of the brush, the inventor of the unique “pliontanism” technique, a People’s Artist of Ukraine, and a laureate of the Shevchenko Prize. The art of Ivan Marchuk harmoniously combines philosophical depth, technical mastery, and boundless love for his native land.
The exhibition “Ivan Marchuk. Awakening” is formed on the basis of three authorial cycles – “The Voice of My Soul”, “Landscape”, and “Blooming”, in which the artist, with particular reverence and attention to detail, shows his love for his native land, memory of Ukrainian traditions, a sense of home, and longing for what has been lost. Each of the three cycles will have its own artistic design to further immerse the visitor in the exhibition and give them the opportunity to embark on a journey through the stages of their own spiritual awakening.
The central work of the exhibition will be the painting “Awakening”, which Ivan Marchuk created in New York during his years of emigration – as a personal act of light amid darkness. Today, when Ukraine is awakening to new strength, this image gains particular depth and symbolism.
The works for the exhibition were provided by 9 museums of Ukraine and 19 private collectors. Such cooperation made it possible to present a large collection of the artist’s well-known works, as well as those that had never before been shown to the general public.
We express our sincere gratitude to the Ivan Marchuk Museum and Cultural Center of Contemporary Art and the Charitable Organization “Modern Art Foundation” for co-organizing the exhibition, as well as to the exhibition partners — Zoriana Pelekh, founder of Pelekh&Partners, and Andrii Kratiuk — for their comprehensive support, trust, and inspired participation in the realization of this landmark art project.
