“Serge Lifar. My Odyssey from Kyiv to Kyiv”

Starting with December 18, the Museum of Kyiv History will host the exhibition project
“Serge Lifar. My Odyssey from Kyiv to Kyiv”, dedicated to the 120th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding Kyivan Serhii Mykhailovych Lifar (Serge Lifar) — a legendary ballet dancer, choreographer, pedagogue, dance theorist, collector, and writer. The project is prepared by the branch of the Museum of Kyiv History — the Serge Lifar Museum.

For the general public of Kyiv residents and guests of the city, unique materials from the artist’s personal collection are presented, preserved in two museum institutions — the Museum of Kyiv History and the National Museum of the History of Ukraine. This exhibition is a symbolic gift to the artist and a gesture of respect for his legacy, which continues to glorify Ukraine worldwide and remains a powerful element of our cultural diplomacy.

“Serge Lifar. My Odyssey from Kyiv to Kyiv” is a visualization of the artist’s remarkable creative journey, his active social life, artistic explorations beyond dance, ambitions, and plans. However, Lifar’s main dream — to freely visit Kyiv and stage his ballets here, reflected in the working title of his memoirs “My Odyssey from Kyiv to Kyiv” — unfortunately remained unrealized. This exhibition project is an attempt by the team of the Museum of Kyiv History to fulfill that dream, at least in a metaphorical way.
