At the Museum of Kyiv History, within the museum project “Kyiv Amulet” an exhibition of the international art project “Signs of Identity” will open, presenting a contemporary collection of stamped towels created by Ukrainians from different parts of the world.
The exhibition consists of 30 towels simultaneously created by Ukrainians from 22 countries on August 24, 2025, on the occasion of Ukraine’s Independence Day. These works unite: stamping — a traditional fabric decoration technique, symbols with a contemporary perspective on cultural identity, unity, and memory. The initiator of the project is Karina Haieva — an artist of decorative arts, art historian, and fashion designer.
The “Signs of Identity” project aims to preserve and revive Ukrainian cultural traditions through decorative and applied arts and collective action. The towel, as one of the oldest symbols of national culture, becomes not just a work of decorative art, but a symbol of belonging, memory, protection, and love for the Motherland.
The historical exhibition project “Kyiv Amulet” explores the theme of sacred beliefs that have shaped the spiritual world of humanity since ancient times. The belief in supernatural forces, in the ability of certain objects and symbols to protect, safeguard, and grant strength, has accompanied humanity from the earliest cultures to the present day. At the center of the exhibition is the phenomenon of the Amulet, which runs through all stages of history: from personal amulets to state symbols.
