The Museum of the History of Kyiv has opened the exhibition project “When Angels Meet. On the History of Military Medicine in Kyiv,” dedicated to Military Medic’s Day, which is marked in Ukraine on July 27. The exhibition tells the story of more than 270 years of the development of military medicine in Ukraine and the people who, across different eras, saved the lives of defenders.

The exhibition’s title symbolizes the meeting of a wounded warrior and a military medic — the moment when a person’s life is decided. Through historical artifacts and contemporary testimonies, the project shows the continuity of the military medicine tradition, from the founding of the Kyiv Military Hospital in 1755, the oldest military medical institution in Ukraine, to the medics working on the front lines today.

Visitors can see authentic artifacts, documents, photographs, medical equipment, and personal belongings of military medics. The central artistic image of the exhibition is a set of military medical stretchers, which artist Serhii Babii transformed into painted canvases, combining documentary quality, symbolism, and remembrance of the struggle for human life. A special place in the exhibition is given to the medical kit of military medic Ruslan Kozak (“Kolyvan”), assembled during his combat service and supplemented with experience from his subsequent work as a tactical medicine instructor.

The exhibition was organized by the Museum of the History of Kyiv in cooperation with the Museum of the Russian-Ukrainian War of the National Defence University of Ukraine, the National Museum of the History of Ukraine in the Second World War, the National Memorial Complex of Heavenly Hundred Heroes — Revolution of Dignity Museum, the Kyiv City Center for Preparing Citizens for National Resistance, the volunteer project “Med+Kolyvan,” as well as the Ukrainian manufacturers of tactical medical equipment Shannon Mechanics and SICH Ukraine.
