A day before the 40th anniversary of the Chornobyl disaster, the exhibition “Chornobyl. Shadow over Kyiv” opened at the Occupation Museum, a branch of the Museum of Kyiv History.
What did Kyiv feel in the first days after the accident? A city close to the tragedy, yet without understanding its true scale?
The exhibition offers to see April 1986 not only as history, but as the lived experience of the city and its residents. Through archival documents of the State Archive of the City of Kyiv, photographs, and personal testimonies, the first days after the accident are reconstructed — from the explosion to the gradual realization of what had happened.
This is an exhibition about memory as a process of comprehension. About Chornobyl not as a distant history, but as an experience that still shapes our understanding of safety, responsibility, and trust.
We invite you to visit the exhibition “Chornobyl. Shadow over Kyiv” and experience this memory together.
