"KYIV IS MINE!". Exhibition of modern painting by Lidia Selyanko

24 May 2023 - 11 June 2023

Description

The Museum and Exhibition Center of the Museum of the History of the City of Kyiv presents a personal exhibition of modern painting "KYIV IS MINE!" of the famous Ukrainian artist Lidia Selyanko.

"My Kiev!" is an exhibition of works about Kyiv through the eyes of modern Ukrainian artist Lidia Selyanko. This is a confession of love in the language of painting, this is an exhibition of admiration for the beloved indomitable hero city. And it opens at a special time for Kyiv - at the end of May. After all, it is on the last days of this month that the city celebrates its birthday, blossoms, overflows with greenery and bursts with life. And a full-scale war cannot stop this. The capital through the eyes of the artist is full of thirst for a happy future and Victory. The author often paints chestnuts as one of the main symbols of Kyiv identity. At the same time, he admires the landscapes of Kyiv and offers to look at them through the prism of bright colors and contrasting silhouettes of the industrial city.

Picturesque Kyiv landscapes, unique architectural monuments, a non-standard view of the landscapes of the modern city are the themes embodied in the works of Lidia Selyanko. The artist also paid special attention to the theme of Kyiv's bridges across the Dnipro, which started a series of works about the capital. In particular, the Podilsko-Voskresensky and Pedestrian and Bicycle Bridges over the Volodymyrsky Uzviz (Glass Bridge). Bridges do not always occupy a central place in paintings and can hide behind architecture or be reflected in water. However, the most attentive viewer will always notice them.

"I am interested in watching how the city changes, how new buildings are erected, modern bridges appear, how majestic they are during the day and romantic in the evening, when the city is lit up with lights. I often draw bridges at various stages of construction, in order to later compare the "before" and "after" pictures. It was painful for me to watch how Kyiv froze when a full-scale war between the Russian Federation and Ukraine began. How people left it en masse, how it was shelled and destroyed, how my native Kyiv was drowned in darkness, but I know that morning always comes after night. I also believe that our Victory will come soon," says the author of the exhibition Lidia Selyanko.
