New exhibition at the Hrushevskyi Museum "In memoria dell'Italia"
Description
The artistic world of Mykhailo Hrushevskyi, his tastes, preferences, collections of antiquities — a lot has already been written about all this. And perhaps it is best depicted by him in the cultural essays "Around the World. From travel impressions", which is about to turn 115. Mykhailo Kotsiubynsky enthusiastically called them beautiful and artistic, wishing that as many people as possible would experience pleasure from reading the essays.
Italian travels, pearls of world art, which the author was lucky enough to see, left traces in the collections of Mykhailo Hrushevskyi and his sister Anna, who always looked up to the tastes of her older brother. Exquisite Florentine mosaics with delicate rose and magnolia branches have long been given the status of memories, kept by descendants for decades as family heirlooms, to now be displayed for the first time in their native House.
The exhibition project "In memoria dell'Italia" is as laconic as Hrushevsky's song to "Around the World": "a little bit of artistry, a little bit of historical tradition...".
‒ Interesting stories about Mykhailo Hrushevskyi's travels through Italy are waiting for you - sometimes enthusiastic and emotional, sometimes ironic and melancholy;
‒ the unique aura of the artistic lady of Venice and the Grand Canal, the panorama of the flower city of Florence, the largest ancient monument of Rome - the Colosseum, Pompeii and Vesuvius - all this will appear before your eyes, in particular, from the postcards that the Hrushevskys sent to their relatives from a distant pleasant trip;
‒ thanks to an unknown photographer, we will take a look at the famous workshop-gallery of Giovanni Ugolini, which for a century and a half (1868‒2018) worked to comfort foresters who returned from Florence with mosaics "in memoria dell'Italia";
‒ we will find out why Florentine mosaics are considered "eternal" and whether it is possible to make an author's replica from any image of a "stone picture";
‒ we will wonder how the scrupulous compiler of his own archive, Mykhailo Hrushevskyi, kept Ugollini's accounts and letters, thanks to which it was possible to research what works the forester historian liked in Florence;
‒ the "aroma" of rose and magnolia branches from Florentine mosaics will complement the taste of Italian Chianti, which Hrushevsky enjoyed during his travels.
