The Museum of the History of the City of Kyiv presents a unique exhibition project "History in Glass".
"Glass" history will be presented in the plots of Kyiv life. The use of glass containers was exclusive in the pharmaceutical industry, the perfume industry, and the filling of liquids for various purposes. And today, glass is present in our everyday life no less than the residents of Kyiv in modern times.

Exhibition project "History in glass"
"History in glass" will be revealed in the themes of "Leisure", "Health", "Life" and "Beauty". The source of inspiration for creating the exhibition was a collection of glass containers, the founder of which is a well-known Kyiv archaeologist, candidate of historical sciences, head of the archeology research sector of the National Reserve "Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra" Serhii Taranenko. This collection was transferred to the funds of the Museum of the History of the City of Kyiv. The thematic stories are enriched by unique samples of glass containers and tableware provided by the exhibition partners Darnytsia pharmaceutical company, Obolon, the largest Ukrainian beverage producer, and Varvar craft beer brand. Interiors of a tavern, a boudoir, a dining room of the 19th century, reproduced on the basis of the collection of the Museum of the History of the City of Kyiv. Collaboration with the Pharmacy-Museum in Kyiv made it possible to place a pharmacy of the 18th century, reconstructed in the smallest details, in the space of the exhibition.
Description
Care for "Health" is inevitably connected with the development of the pharmaceutical industry and the pharmacy business. One of the most amazing exhibits in the household theme is a fragment of a glass shoe for stretching leather shoes. The curator of the exhibition, Alina Sushko, insists: "The variety of colors of glass products, the variety of forms and spheres of application of glass is impressive. In many fields, the material, the history of which is more than one thousand years old, is irreplaceable to this day. For the first time, we focus specifically on the material and through it reveal tangential topics. About a thousand glass items selected for the exhibition organically complement the picture of the past and will be understandable to everyone, and the purpose of some of them is intriguing."
Cosmetic products and perfumes occupy a special place in the arsenal of beauties and gentlemen of different historical eras. The most amazing bottles with the aromas of famous French brands are an important and extremely interesting part of "History in Glass". A conversation about perfumes, aromas and authentic smells would be incomplete without the opportunity to experience them. Thanks to the project's partner, the well-known perfumer Bohdan Zubchenko, visitors to the exhibition will be able to get acquainted with special scents, in particular the author's "ALEA 89 ANNE DE KIEV", inspired by the figure of the Kiev princess.
Bohdan Zubchenko comments on participation in the project as follows: "Part of the exhibits that I have been collecting for the Museum of Ukrainian Perfumery for many years will be presented at the exhibition. Having been involved in perfumery for more than 30 years, educational activities remain very important for me, and this project is an opportunity to tell about the history and work of Ukrainian factories that created fragrances on a par with European ones, just as they are now or even higher. Perfume is the image of an era, its sensual embodiment. Aromas are always associated with memories, awaken associations. Looking at old paintings and watching old movies, the question often arises: what did the heroes of that time smell like? At the exhibition, you will be able not only to see history in glass, but also to feel its aroma."
