November 23–24, 2026: The “Kyiv and Kyivans” Conference to Take Place in Kyiv

On November 23–24, 2026, the Museum of the History of the City of Kyiv will host the annual scientific and practical conference “Kyiv and Kyivans.” The event will be held in a hybrid format, both offline and online.

This year’s conference theme is “Myths and Legends: How Kyiv Narratives Shape Contemporary Culture.” Participants will focus on exploring Kyiv’s urban myths, their role in shaping cultural identity, and their influence on contemporary cultural practices, public space, and the understanding of the city amid current social and political changes.

Special attention will be given to myth-making processes as a tool for reinterpreting cultural heritage, creating new narratives, and developing creative approaches in the museum, artistic, and tourism sectors.

The conference topics include:

  • archaic and medieval legends of Kyiv
  • myths of the modern and Soviet periods
  • the image of Kyiv in popular culture
  • new myths of wartime
  • the role of myth in city branding and tourism
  • public space as a carrier of myths

The working language of the conference is Ukrainian.

Researchers, scholars, representatives of cultural institutions, and everyone interested in the topic are invited to participate. Participation is possible both with and without article publication.

The deadline for submission of materials is September 7, 2026.
